TO THE DEER : Prologue to Rat King Art
Min and Terra lived in a place called NoTime. Though Min and Terra had no gender, we will call Min He and Terra She for clarity of story. Min was flesh and Terra the spirit of their world. Together they took care of the life that was born through the Eye of Creation which hung in the sky like the sun. The Eye would cry a tear of creation which Min and Terra would find. Together they would raise the new life inside.  They were perfectly content and happy.

One day a diseased rat came crawling through a hole in a NoTime tree. The rat came from a place called InEver. He spoke of making a kingdom of Terra's earth body. When Min heard of this, he laughed at the absurdity and offered the rat a salve for his mange. For spite, the rat bit a large hole in his pelt.

Taken aback, Min went to speak with Terra and left the Rat speaking his lies of dominion to the Doves who listened and believed.

The Doves, were what we would call Angels. They liked the idea of a kingdom and flocked to InEver  to become disciples of the Rat.   He promised them wealth and unlimited power.

Min and Terra both missed the harmonies of the Doves. Min questioned the Eye of Creation that hung in the sky, impassively watching everything. The Eye cried a tear of new life for answer.

Before Min found where the tear landed, a Delphi-dream came and suggested harmony’s quickest return could be found in light’s knowledge to be found at the far edge of InEver. Min understood this to mean some secret knowledge of light to be found somewhere at the far edge of InEver. He decided to journey there. As he climbed through the hole of the tree, he saw the genesis tear melting.

After what we would call an eternity, Min came back, stinking of dead dreams, fear things and InDustTyranny. He had found nothing. As his eyes adjusted to the light of NoTime, he saw Terra’s Earth Body rapped into the Rat’s kingdom. He saw Doves wearing images of the rat and of themselves made from Terra's flesh and bones, silver and gold. A desire for revenge raged against Min’s heart.

From the crotch of the NoTime tree, an opossum, wearing a skull, spoke.

"Fool, Min. Your quiet child presence here would have saved your Terra."

The opossum gestured to where the tear melted in the sun. Min saw a skeleton of an infant dove. The opossum continued.

"You should have raised the new life of the genesis tear like you had always done. But your impatience and misunderstanding metaphor sent you to the far edge of InEver seeking a secret knowledge."

"How do you know of my dreams?" Min asked.

"Delphi dreams bow to RatKing, and InEver has only one edge. The hole in the NoTime tree,"

The opossum laughed.

Min understood he was tricked by the rat and his own want of a secret knowledge. He did not know what to do.

A metal tree screamed of steel and flesh. The opossum stopped laughing and spoke again.

"Now, Min. The rat nears a death and needs a friend to give his treasures to. I don’t know why, but he wants you. If you come with me, you might get your Terra back."

Numb with the horror of his own mistake, Min followed the opossum, who crawled down the tree and over a hill toward a glass castle.

The rest you’ll know as RatKing Art.
