There are many classification for the poetry, prose and fiction
of Michael Zittel. Most of his short stories and narrative
poems tend to the fantasic with a dominant animal symbology. However,
for simplicity, he likes to separate the work into
New
York and
Los Angeles.
He does this as the works were primarily written in LA and NYC.
"I have lived on both coasts for extended periods of time,
and each seems to inspire their own type of work. In California,
I strove to be a
Toa-Of-Pooh bohemian poet. I loved being
poor and pursuing art. If I had $50 bucks in my pocket,
I was set for a few days and didn't need much more than pen and
paper.
In New York I became a
Rat
Capitalist. Turning thirty and marriage will do that
to you. I struggled with it for awhile, but it has actually been
a good thing. I needed to take time to learn about business and
the "real world" out side my little art bubble.."
For awhile, he stopped writing poetry altogether and went into
business. Surprisingly, for a bohemian poet, he has been
successful enough to resume writting at his leisure.
Enjoy.
